Dr. Maria Montessori defined the purpose of education as “...the development of a complete human being, oriented to the environment, adapted to his or her time, place and culture.”
At Little Feat we accomplish this goal by:
Encouraging the development of every child to his or her maximum potential by creating a warm and accepting environment in which each child feels secure, respected, and valued.
Building a foundation of lifetime, creative learning by providing an enriched, stimulating environment with safe limits within which the child is an active explorer of his or her own individualized learning.
Helping the child to function independently through a frame of non-punitive discipline in which a child can develop self-discipline, responsibility for choice, and personal strength.
Educating the child for life, which includes academic study, as well as social, individual, and environmental responsibility.
The Little Feat Montessori House of Children is administrated by Mrs. Sheena John - Proprietor and Mrs. Munira Akhtar - Principal, both AMI trained Montessorians. AMI accreditation is an indication that the highest standards of Montessori philosophy are being met.
All staff members are trained by reputed Montessori Teacher's training institutions. They bring with them a thorough knowledge of the needs of the developing child and a unique range of useful qualities and experiences. Rather than lecturing to large or small groups of children, the teacher is trained to teach one child at a time, and to oversee thirty or more children working on a broad array of tasks. She is facile in the basic lessons of math, language, the arts and sciences, and in guiding a child's research and exploration, capitalizing on his/her interest in and excitement about a subject. The teacher does not make assignments or dictate what to study or read, nor does she set a limit as to how far a child follows an interest..
